What you can expect once you’ve signed up

1. Interview

When: Following receipt of application for membership.

With whom: Our Chief Executive

An informal meeting to discuss the application and to give an explanation of Melin and its services :

  • Melin’s history;
  • Ethics, values and philosophy;
  • Board and Committee structure;
  • Departmental structure and hierarchy.

2. Introductory meeting

When: Before the application for membership is taken to the Board.

With whom: Chair and Vice Chair of the Board

An opportunity to meet with the Chair and Vice prior to a report being prepared for Board to consider the application. Discussions to include your role and contribution to the Board and an outline of the review/appraisal process.

3. Invite to office

When: Within one month of being appointed and before the next scheduled Board meeting.

With whom: Our Communications team

On arrival to Leadership office, your photograph will be taken for ID/door access badge so that it can be prepared for you to take away the same day whilst visiting the office.

4. Invite to office (Governance documents)

When: Within one month of being appointed and before the next scheduled Board meeting.

With whom: Our Chief Executive and Corporate Services Manager

You’ll need to sign the Terms of Reference, we’ll issue your Share Certificate on receipt of £1. We’ll also issue copies of the Rules, our Code of Conduct, Schedule of Meetings, Travelling/Expenses Form, Board member Contact Details and the Overview of the Business Plan.

5. Welcome

When: Within one month of being appointed and before the next scheduled Board meeting.

With whom: Our Chief Executive and Corporate Services Manager

A welcome and introduction to Leadership before a tour of our offices, meeting senior staff in each of the business units.

6. Technology

When: Within one month of being appointed and before the next scheduled Board meeting.

With whom: Our Technology team

A welcome and introduction to the Technology team who will provide laptop/tablet to ensure understanding of our Board website and introduce you to Diligent Board. They’ll also arrange training registration with Diligent.

Your ID badge will be issued and door entry explained.

7. Internal relationships

When: To be arranged on the day of the next scheduled Board meeting.

With whom: Leadership Group

We’ll arrange 15 minute sessions with each of the Leadership Group to provide an overview of the work of their department and Business Unit.

8. Governance

When: Within one month of appointment.

With whom: Our Chief Executive and Corporate Services Manager

Board members are signposted to Diligent Board to view key policies:

  • Equalities;
  • Data Protection;
  • Whistleblowing?
  • Code of Conduct;
  • Delegated Authority and Standing Orders;
  • Financial Regulations;
  • Rule of the Association.
